Origins
BlueMove was born from the MAVA Foundation’s long-standing commitment to marine conservation in the Mediterranean.
In 2021, BlueSeeds and the WWF Mediterranean Marine Initiative invited small-scale fishers to submit expressions of interest for support in developing sustainable projects and accessing European funding. The response was clear: One hundred and eleven fishers were ready to invest in safer, more selective and more resilient practices, but needed help navigating complex procedures and securing upfront capital. Thirty-seven of them were supported following a selection process.
Building on this pilot, BlueMove was created in 2022 to make funding more accessible, working across the Mediterranean with local NGOs, technical assistants and financial partners close to fishing communities.
Coordination
At the head of BlueMove is Camille Richer, whose background combines financial inclusion and impact investment.
Before joining BlueMove, she helped build Microfinance Solidaire, an impact investment fund launched by the French NGO Entrepreneurs du Monde, with an €11 million portfolio financing social microfinance and access to energy for vulnerable communities.
BlueMove carries this spirit into fisheries, turning European ambition into practical, accessible finance so small-scale fishers can lead their own sustainable transition.
